This summer at Austin Motel ~ with an assist from the DRUNKLUCK team~ we're bringing the heat with ¡Cuéntame! an exploration of Latinx music from the diaspora. Every other Wednesday at the pool - rotating DJs are spinning cumbia, bolero, chicha, hampeta, criolla, y más y más.
SUMMER 2023 LINEUP
5/10 - Manolo Black: Manolo Black explores the rich, centuries-old musical history of Cuba with an intimate DJ set that weaves the quintessential Cuban genres of rumba, danzón and son into a mesmerizing journey through time and space. The evening will showcase the unique instruments, orchestral arrangements, African influences and creole rhythms that have and continue to make Cuban song and dance so irresistible.
5/24 - Orión García: Orión García takes us to the tropical latitudes of Colombia with an intimate DJ set that highlights the rich and infinitely groovy AfroColombian musical traditions of criolla and champeta and features some of the choicest sound selections from the regions of Palenque and Cali.
6/14 - Queen Killah Bee (RGV): It’s time to 956 the 512. @queenkillahbee paints ATX with the sounds of the RGV. Growing up una pocha en la frontera she brings an evocative set ranging from rap and hip-hop, to cumbia, corridos, y perreo. Whether you’re Río Bravo or Río Grande, aquí hay puro pinche pari.🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
6/28 - Ella Ella: Born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley, Ella Ella is taking us to the frontera and around the globe with a DJ set ranging from perreo, dembow, reggaeton, regional mexican, cumbia, y latin pop. Prepare for an intimate set with a big sound!
7/12 - SUXXY PUXXY: In this edition of Cuentame, Suxxy Puxxy goes beyond her norm to take you on a musical journey — from downbeat, folkloric tropical sounds of South America, to a contemporary expression of Latin American upbeat electronic. Mixing dance music with tropical sounds, the DJ and producer will help you escape the noise of the city by musically transporting you into the Mexican jungle.
7/26 - Lucas / Heaven (LA): Lucas/Heaven is a Chicano musician, producer, songwriter and DJ from Houston, TX. Following a philosophy that all music is related, Lucas has made music with some of the most random artists, including legendary rapper Too $hort and experimental musician Jandek. His debut album Blues of the World (2022), a global and soulful fusion of electronic dance music, RnB and jazz, was led by his first hit single Every City has a Rhythm. Lucas is based in Los Angeles.
8/9 - Paurro (CDMX): Paurro is a Mexican DJ and producer who has built a reputation for pumping house music, leaving audiences in ecstasy with a full body workout. Fresh off a Boiler Room x Primavera Madrid set, her selection at the piscina will bring all of these energies and more - plus some of the sounds that have inspired her since he was a child. You can expect a huge 90s vibe with some R&B, freestyle and disco!
8/23 - DINA (LA): Meet Dina, a DJ and creative born and raised in Los Angeles. With an eclectic taste and a passion for blending genres, Dina’s sets are a journey through global sounds, from reggaeton, dembow, baile funk, dancehall, soca, afro house, hip-hop, dance, and more!
9/13 - Nurrydog: Originally from Monterrey, Mexico, Nurrydog is part of the collective Peligrosa, brings his neo-urban sounds to every party. His sounds can be described as an eclectic mix of electronic music with Latin flavors. Expect a global bass sound mixture with cumbia, reggaeton, baile funk, and more.
9/26 - El Tule: For the last fifteen years El Tule (el TOO-lay) has been honing its unique sound combining influences of Cumbia, Merengue, Salsa, Reggae and Afro-Latin in Austin TX. Their original music is about history, art and culture often focusing on legends and tales of the mystical.
